How to Make a Napkin Holder using Yogurt Container

Recycle a simple yogurt container and make a napkin holder with the kids for birthday parties or other celebrations!

I have been eating plain yogurt for a couple of months now, with granola and fruit and it has been a delicious breakfast for sure!

The containers are a great material to recycle. I had seen people creating planters with them, in many cool styles, or using them as pencil holders, brush holders and other creative things like that. So when my sister got here from Mexico to visit, and we had a picnic with friends for Memorial Day, we had the idea of reusing these plastic container and turning them into napkin holders to keep the napkins in place.

Anything that is creative and help reuse and recycle things we already have at home are worth to try. It’s also a fun craft project to make with kids for upcoming picnics and birthday parties, especially when you don’t want to spend lots of money but you still want everything to have an specific color or style.

MATERIALS:

  • Acrylic paint and a brush

  • Recycled yogurt container

  • Scissors

How to Make a Napkin Holder using Yogurt Container:

Easy peasy, check it out!

  1. Cut the yogurt container. Start by cutting two rectangles out of the sides of a recycled yogurt container. The rectangles are as big as you want them to be, you want to be able to fit a couple of napkins without leaving too much space so they actually stay in place and don’t move around. I measured approximately 2 cm from side to side.

  2. Paint your napkin holder. Use acrylic paint to add color to your plastic container. You will have to add a couple of layers of acrylic paint to be able to cover the design in the plastic container. Another idea is to use spray paint, but if you are working in this project with the kids, acrylic paint is so much better and safer! You could also add a decoupaged design like we did in this fruit bowl following the steps here: How to decoupaged a plastic bowl.

That easy! This is a great craft project for kids that can also be useful in any upcoming birthday party or celebration.

Hope you like this idea, it’s great being able to recycle and reuse stuff we find in the products we consume and love :)
