DIY: Hand Painted Wooden Spoons
Add color to your wooden spoons and other kitchen utensils with this easy and fun DIY tutorial.
I found a package of wooden spoons and other kitchen utensils on sale the other day. I was really excited because I needed new ones for the kitchen. I also wanted to paint them just like I did with my old ones a few months before in this tutorial here color your kitchen utensils.
I love to see all that color everyday, and decorate them is really easy and fun. I also shared a video here, that is only in Spanish, but it will give you a better idea of the process and easy steps :)

Wooden spoons or other kitchen utensils
Nontoxic acrylic paint (different colors)
Tape
Brushes and toothpicks
Mod podge or any other transparent wood sealer. I used one natural and nontoxic called Bulls Eye Clear Shellac that I had used in the past and works great as well.
How to hand paint wooden spoons:
1. Create your colorful design in your wooden spoons. Apply tape to delineate the area where you want to paint your wooden utensils.
2. Paint your wooden spoons. Paint them using non toxic acrylic paint in different colors. You can use a plastic cup and leave the wooden spoons upside down drying for a couple of hours.
3. Create a fun pattern in your wooden spoons. This is optional. Use a toothpick or skewer stick to draw some dots and create a fun pattern. You can also draw some lines to decorate your spoons using regular brushes.
4. Add a sealer. Add two or three layers of mod podge or any other wood sealer at the end. I used one natural and nontoxic called Bulls Eye Clear Shellac that I had used in the past and works great as well. There is also an amazing Mod podge that is food and dishwasher safe. Although I don’t think you should place these spoons in the dishwasher, the fact that is food safe might make you feel better about it. Wait approximately an hour between layers. This would protect the paint from dust and water.
Note: Use the wood sealer just on top of the painted part of your wooden spoons, not the part that you actually use for cooking.
